Voltex Hybrid X-10 Heat Pump Water Heater with Circulating System.

Voltex Hybrid Electric heat pump water heaters from A.O. Smith are the most versatile, energy-efficient option for the homeowner who is looking to go green and save money.

And who doesn’t want to save money? Voltex provides the same amount of hot water as a conventional electric water heater at less than half the cost.

How Do They Work?

The Voltex Heat Pump compressor pumps R-134a refrigerant through an evaporator, raising its pressure until it liquefies in the condenser. This process heats up the condenser and cools the evaporator as air passes through it and gathers heat from the air. This in turn heats the water for your home.

The system is highly efficient, environmentally friendly and provides dehumidified and cooler air as it passes through the condenser. This dryer and cooler air is released into the ambient air and is a great plus for hot and humid areas such as garages or basements.

Increased Storage.

A high-capacity storage tank enables the heat pump compressor to operate more frequently than the heating elements. This provides higher energy efficiency and lower operating costs — saving you money.

Energy Efficiency.

The Voltex has a 2.4 energy factor (EF) rating. It conserves energy and meets federal Energy Star qualifications.

Choice of Operating Modes.

You can choose from hybrid or conventional electric efficiency modes to match heating requirements to environmental conditions. Hybrid mode automatically adjusts between the compressor and heating elements depending upon heat requirements. Vacation mode reduces operating costs and provides freeze protection during an extended absence.

Backup Electronic Elements.

Long-lasting heating elements help heat water when in conventional electric or hybrid modes.

Virtually maintenance-free.

This system has virtually no maintenance other than periodic flushing and filter cleaning.

Dry Fire Protection.

A built-in control system checks to ensure the tank is full of water during startup to prevent dry firing the heating elements, which in systems that don’t have this safety feature can cause the elements to burn out instantly or prematurely.

Electronic User Interface.

This unit has a user-friendly LCD touch-pad control with plain English text and easily understood intuitive status icons provide easy interaction.

Large LCD temperature display shows temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Three-line 13-character backlit LCD display communicates current set points status and operational information.

Advanced diagnostics convey error messages in plain English. The last four arrow messages are saved in the control system memory.

There is a child-resistant safety lock to deter unwanted access to temperature settings.

Powered Anode.

A non-sacrificial powered anode protects the tank from corrosion and eliminates service of conventional anode rods.

Convenient filter maintenance.

Washable air filter is easy to remove for routine cleaning.

Warranty.

10 year limited warranty.

10 year warranty on all parts and tank.

What is the best tank for you?

There are other options out there: add on units and “drop in” integrated systems. But we have found them both to be unreliable. They are known in the industry for having multiple problems, some on them aren’t even certified and in some instances they are no more efficient than your conventional hot water heater.

Tankless hot water systems can cost anywhere from $3,000–$10,000 and have a higher maintenance rate, especially with well water or water that has heavy lime content. They also tend to clog up and operate inefficiently, causing low water pressure and even more maintenance.

That is why we recommend the A.O. Smith Voltex 60 or 80 gallon hybrid heat pump system. The powered anode protects the tank from corrosion and eliminates the service requirements of a conventional water heater. It will pay for itself in four to five years depending upon energy rates and water usage and we believe there is no other water heater on the market comparable to this system.
